Shenandoah

Conroe was founded in 1881 by Isaac Conroe, who was lumberman that settle in the area after leaving the north and life of a union soldier. Conroe opened a sawmill around the same time, as the area was largely wooded with piney forest. In 1904, Conroe incorporated with the city limits being only 5.44 square miles, increasing less than 2 square miles to 7.15 in 1970. Over the last 50 years Conroe has grown over 7 times its original size to now 42.35 square feet, and still growing through annexation of portions of Montgomery county unincorporated areas surrounded the city. This expansion has lead to master planned communities of Grand Central Park, Harper’s Preserve, and Artavia located between the Woodlands and Conroe. Learn more on the City of Conroe website.

Lake Conroe

Lake Conroe

Lake Conroe

Created as an alternative water supply for the City of Houston, Lake Conroe has become a weekend spot for the city dwellers.  Many have purchased land around the lake, making a place to enjoy during hot spring and summer days.  It is named after Conroe, even though it is only in a small portion of the small city and crosses into Willis to the north, moving into Walker County.  Over the last couple of decades with the Woodlands being developed the lake has also see many new developments; like Margaritaville Lake Resort, and April Sound Country Club.  See what’s all the talk about on Visit Lake Conroe website.
